MCP Server Setup

Connect your AI editor to ZeroDB in one command with zerodb-cli — the real, published npm package (npmjs.com/package/zerodb-cli, v0.1.3). Every command and terminal output on this page was captured from a real run in a clean scratch directory.

1. Run the CLI

No signup, no install step — npx runs it directly.

npx zerodb-cli init

The first run shows a one-time terms-of-service prompt and waits for confirmation:

  By continuing you agree to the AINative Terms of Service.
  Terms: https://ainative.studio/.well-known/myterms.json

  Do you agree? [y/N]

2. Real output — instant database provisioned

Captured verbatim from a real run (project ID and key below have since been rotated).

  Creating instant database...
  Project:  260789fa-b47c-4cd7-8baf-a7d0abdc722b
  API Key:  tmp_0HvtHsjVKxyz...
  Expires:  2026-11-06T06:13:03.345575+00:00
  Claim:    https://www.ainative.studio/claim?token=...&project=260789fa-...

  Editor:   claude-code
  Created:  .env
  Created:  .mcp.json (MCP server configured)

  Ready! Try:
    curl -X POST https://api.ainative.studio/api/v1/public/memory/ \
      -H "X-API-Key: tmp_0HvtHsjVKxyz..." \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{"title":"Test","content":"Hello ZeroDB"}'

This is a real 72-hour instant trial project — no account required. Visiting the Claim URL while signed in converts it to a permanent project under your account before it expires.

3. Verified live — the printed curl example actually works

Running the exact curl command the CLI printed, against the real API, returns a real memory record:

$ curl -X POST https://api.ainative.studio/api/v1/public/memory/ \
    -H "X-API-Key: $ZERODB_API_KEY" \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
    -d '{"title":"Test","content":"Hello ZeroDB"}'

{"id":"2ff7c36c-0114-47ba-b33b-541f25ec22e8","success":true}
HTTP status: 201

What gets written to disk

your-project/
  .env                  # ZERODB_API_KEY, ZERODB_PROJECT_ID, ZERODB_API_URL
  .mcp.json # MCP server config (Claude Code)
  .cursor/mcp.json # MCP server config (Cursor)
  .vscode/mcp.json # MCP server config (VS Code)

The real .env written by the run above:

# ZeroDB Configuration (added by zerodb init)
ZERODB_API_KEY=tmp_0HvtHsjVKxyz...
ZERODB_PROJECT_ID=260789fa-b47c-4cd7-8baf-a7d0abdc722b
ZERODB_API_URL=https://api.ainative.studio

And the real .mcp.json it wrote (editor auto-detected as Claude Code from the run environment):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zerodb-memory": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.ainative.studio/v1/mcp/zerodb-memory-mcp/messages",
      "headers": {
        "x-api-key": "tmp_0HvtHsjVKxyz..."
      }
    }
  }
}

Supported editors
